People are so obsessed with how many followers they have on Instagram, as though the number indicates their success level. You will also notice that these “popularity addicts” never talk about their income or sales.
That’s because their following does not necessarily translate into mass sales!
As entrepreneurs, we aren’t interested in joining the popularity contest… We’re showing up to make money!
So it makes sense that we shouldn’t be modeling our Instagram progress off of these people and start focusing on ways to convert followers into leads using Instagram.
In this blog, I’m talking about all the dos and don’ts of converting followers to leads on Instagram! Ready? Let’s go!
While growth is a good sign, new followers are not a reflection of potential conversions. New followers are essentially strangers who have not got a true sense of what you can offer them. People may follow you for a number of reasons (sometimes superficial) other than an interest in purchasing what you have on offer.
UNSPOKEN RULES OF ENGAGEMENT
How often do you get DM’s with blanket promotions/offers or collaborations from businesses who have clearly not even taken the time to view your profile? I mean, does that strategy even work for them?
No one wants to deal with a cold, hard sales pitch or a bot that is all too eager to take them through the predetermined prompts that don’t end up helping them with what they need anyway.
The most effective strategy is to be authentic and consistent in every online interaction – from your posts and stories, to your comments and DMs. You have a unique personality, perspective and set of skills that can really be an inspiration and of benefit to people – wear it proudly!
People always find interest in someone or something they can relate to in their everyday lives and if that someone is you, it subconsciously generates a huge sense of trust in you and, by extension, the value you could add.
ARE MY FOLLOWERS THE RIGHT ONES?
A cold audience doesn’t know who you are, don’t see much of your content or don’t trust in what you can provide.
How do you gauge whether your audience is cold?
- Your posts are getting likes and no comments.
- Of those likes, there are different people liking each post – not consistently the same people and a few new ones on your recent posts.
- Your stories reflect a similar viewing pattern to the above.
- Your comments and DMs reflect spam or collab offers from unrelated brands.
- You barely ever get DMs
A WINNING NURTURING STRATEGY!
It’s time you stop focusing on “how many” and rather “WHO”. It’s all about getting your ideal client to follow your page and grow their interest in your product/service or course.
While regular posts on their feed and stories showcase who you are and what you value, it’s not enough to convince them to invest in your business.
Set aside time to identify ideal clients and engage with them (like/comment on their posts and start heartfelt conversations through DM). Your interest and support in their business/life is what establishes their TRUST in you!
Here are my tried and tested tips engagement:
- Consistency is key. Set a routine schedule for engaging with your audience.
- Authenticity is power. Be yourself, show you care about your audience and their business/life.
When you are getting great comments and DM’s from your ideal clients, you can safely say that you have gained their valuable trust and it is time for that launch!
